Siberian fur traders started an experiment in 1959 to calm the temperament of the red fox so they could harvest their furs. By 2040, the domesticated fox will have become its own subspecies.

it may happen that a domesticated fox will appear, because the study's results show that their current generation of foxes are much more tame than wild ones, but total human acclimation to the level of a dog or a cat is a slow process that will still take some decades and a lot of fox generations to what i understand. I think that we're more talking about the end of the 21st century for such a thing to happen.
