“Sokolniki” Park — nature’s embassy in the megalopolis
A grand reorganization of “Sokolniki” park is coming to an end. Pedestrians and cars are separated. Losiny Ostrov National Park is now connected with the very center of Sokolniki by an ecological path. As you walk through the city park, with its cafés, exhibition center, and sport and educational spaces, you can actually end up in a real forest, where you can observe wild animals from elevated walking galleries constructed at different heights.
Architects are preserving the historical linear structure of the park but giving each alley its own unique feel and design. Fences have disappeared or been replaced with green hedges or natural terrain forms. Light buses have been introduced for the main alleys. Of course, the whole space is now easily accessible for people with all kinds of disabilities.
