On July 12, 2035, SpaceX (partnered by NASA) will send its first astronauts to the Red Planet aboard the SpaceX Starship; the first crew will arrive in early 2036. The communications system is fairly slow, and responses between ground control and the crew can take up to 20 minutes both ways, leaving crews to fend for themselves for long periods in the case of emergency.
With the launch of life-support systems, habitats, and food/supplies to the Martian surface in 2033, the trip is expected to last a little over 2 1/2 years. The crew will return sometime around late 2037.
