Weather Wars: get my rain back!

It's great when you can control the weather: more rain is sent to drying farmland, and big cities use regular "sanitary" rains for cleaning. However, more rain in one country could mean less rain in the other. As soon as hidden methods of weather manipulation are detected, some countries start "wars for weather" as they did earlier fighting for other natural resources. Besides, bad weather became a weapon itself: new international treaty is discussed after Asia and America exchanged some artificial hurricanes.

Marriette Deckard I m a huge fan of the cyber-punk genre, I mean consider my name for one. 17 Mar 2019
Marriette Deckard The technical challenges involved in controlling the non-linear dynamics of climate and weather make this unfeasible by 2050, maybe by 2090. Nano-tech and advanced AI modelling will be the game changers that make this more feasible. Currently there are far too many technical hurdles to say nothing of the fact that most of our attempts at geo-engineering have been spectacularly complex, and have involved a level of unintended consequences that may prove to be too disruptive to the integrity of our natural systems and cause a level of socio-economic disruption that we may not be resilient enough to absorb without significantly risking societal collapse. Our current attempts at weather control are primitive at best and so far we can create rain intermittently. Our capacity to even predict the weather is extremely limited as the tools at our disposal do not account for non-linear dynamics. Also, just because we can develop a technology doesn't mean we should. Given the track record of governments the last thing I would want to do is empower them to control the weather and slam hurricanes into national borders killing hundreds and thousands of innocent people who had nothing to do with whatever acrimony was going on with the heads of states. It is this same reason that there is vigorous resistance to the war industries the uphold unfettered Capitalist regimes. Now, I don' t want to entirely destroy the idea of this happening because it comes from a clearly creative mind, and would make a really good plot line for a cyberpunk story from which it is derived. 17 Mar 2019
