The era of driverless cars

According to futurist Thomas Frey, by 2030, robots will replace human drivers. This will solve the problem of road safety and traffic management. But at the same time, it will leave huge numbers of people out of work: thousands of taxi drivers, truck drivers, couriers, together with traffic police and medical workers, because the level of comfort and safety on the roads will reduce the number of road accidents. The most important thing is to ensure the cyber security of one’s car, or the attackers will be able to make your vehicle ride into the middle of nowhere, or worse.

The spread of unmanned vehicles made the problem of parking in the central areas of cities irrelevant. After dropping off passengers, the car searches for a parking place autonomously, somewhere away from the centre - for example, you can program its computer to choose the cheapest parking. At the designated time, the car returns and picks up the owner.

Chris Purser Individuals will own the majority of driverless cars, which will bounce from passenger to passenger. It would be very impractical to own a car that sits around all day while we work; all night while we sleep.

Kevin Culli I have no doubt that this will happen someday. But driverless cars face significant non-technical obstacles as well as a few technical ones, many of which are mentioned below. Chances are that Mr. Frey's description of widespread driverless cars won't happen until around 2050, I think.

Eren We may have much bigger problems. What about our feelings? In case of an accident, the computer will only evaluate the possibilities.

Milkzeys Lukeson Gaming, Should've installed that Anti-Virus. But in all seriousness, I think some form of security will be in place in the future for this kind of tech, like how we have Cyber Security we'll probably have Driverless Security.

Owen Shaughnessy It'll happen, but the moment one car goes haywire and kills its passenger and pedestrians, I think there will be some design edits. No drive by wire in human control mode. I need a direct link between me and the road that doesn't pass through a box of silicon. Mechanical. I do however, welcome the idea. I think it would make commuting quite easy and relaxing. Instead of flying middle fingers, people could roll the windows down and chat whilst in traffic. I doubt by this point in time self driving cars will take over, so traffic jams will still exist. I expect great things from this technology.
